ABOUT US

At Havelock North Village Kids, we believe in the child’s right to play. Our play-based curriculum ensures children have access to thought-provoking open-ended resources.

Teachers ensure every child has opportunities to gain good skills, in language, literacy and numeracy

Teachers have high aspirations for every child, and support these by partnering with their whānau to design and deliver education that responds to their needs, and sustains their identities, languages, and cultures.

Teachers meaningfully incorporate te reo Māori and tikanga Māori into the everyday life of the centre. By weaving Māori cultural practices into our programme we ensure children experience and enjoy our unique New Zealand heritage.

We ensure our centre is safe, inclusive and free from racism, discrimination and bullying. We reduce barriers to education for all children, ensuring equitable opportunities to attend and learn are available for each child.

Teachers continually explore new teaching methods and child development information to ensure their teaching practices and knowledge stays up to date.

Our teachers follow a play based learning and primary care philosophy. The Tui room offers great spaces, both inside and outside, for the children to explore and investigate their environment.

We use a primary caregiver system for babies and toddlers to ensure a smooth transition from the home environment to our centre. A secure attachment is achieved by the same teacher sharing loving and caring moments.

Children are encouraged to learn through planned and spontaneous play activities. The teachers ensure these activities are developmentally appropriate and based on children’s interests, encouraging all children to become confident and competent learners.

Teachers place a high importance on creating a friendly environment where children and their whanau feel they have a sense of belonging.

Teachers follow a play-based learning programme extending children’s knowledge and skills through their interests in a fun and supportive way.

Opportunities for children to develop the skills and attributes needed for a successful transition to school are woven into our programme.

Loose parts activities are available inside and outside to encourage problem solving and self-initiated activities.

Our outside environment encourages exploration, assists development of physical skills and gives children an understanding of the natural world.
