Philosophy – OSCAR
We believe, at Village Kids that every child is a taonga – treasure and will learn best when both teachers and the environment affirm and support children holistically.
The values of Paua are unique to us and are interwoven into our culture to ensure we work collaboratively, as a community of learners.
We recognise and share our New Zealand dual culture and heritage and we value our joint partnership with parents, whanau and the wider community.
Our Tamariki – Children
We believe children learn best when they have:
- their emotional, social and physical needs nurtured
- a sense of belonging and trust
- access to a welcoming, fun, caring and stimulating environment
- time to develop relationships and friendships with others
- formed attachments with their teachers
- opportunities to develop confidence, independence and resilience
- access to resources and time to explore at their own pace
- opportunities to be an active participant
Our Whanau – Family
We believe children learn best when:
- reciprocal, responsive trusting relationships are formed between teachers and whanau
- their whanau are involved in their learning and they share their aspirations for their child
- there is honest and open communication about progression of learning and development
- links are made between home and Village Kids to incorporate values, rituals, culture and routines
Our Kaiako – Teachers
We believe children learn best when teachers are:
- warm, friendly, fun and supportive
- knowledgeable and engaging
- respectful, honest and valued
- collaborative and empowering
- committed to ongoing learning
- sharing a sense of aroha and patience
- positive role models
- committed to developing professional relationships
- creative thinkers
- committed to providing a learning environment that provokes exploration, encourages communication, invites contribution and ignites imagination.
