Village Kids

Our Preschool Centre for 2 to 5 year olds is divided into 2 separate specialised learning environments.

Our Toddler’s area (The Tui’s) is for children aged 22 months to approximately 3 years.

We have established a safe environment with stable and predictable routines, where children feel a sense of belonging and empowerment. Creativity and investigation are encouraged, while confidence and independence are nurtured.

Our Preschooler’s area (The Pukeko’s) is for children over 3 years through to school-going age. We’ve created a relaxed environment where children have access to a variety of fun and stimulating tasks, including many open-ended resources. They are supported in their learning through caring, positive relationships with each other and their teachers. Social competency and resiliency skills are developed through children working alongside others, and challenging themselves physically and emotionally. Children’s interests are developed through collaborative and independent play.

We believe that children should be free to develop at their own pace in their preferred activity.

We encourage independent thinking and engagement. Open questions, modelling and prompting are used to enrich and expand children’s conversations and learning, while concepts of literacy and numeracy are interwoven into learning activities.

In both the Toddler and Preschool areas, mat time is scheduled to engage with children through a wide range of music, dance, stories, books, fingerplays and discussions.

At Village Kids we value learning. Exploring nature, unlocking creativity, developing numeracy and literacy skills, investigating science, and having loads of fun while doing it all are only some of the many things that children attending our Centres learn.

The values of Paua are unique to us and are interwoven into our culture to ensure we work collaboratively, as a community of learners. We recognise and share our New Zealand dual culture and heritage and we value our joint partnership with parents, whanau and the wider community.
